About Us

Malaga Boerboels is owned by Oscar Torcuato Martin, Malaga Boerboels was registered as a kennel early in 2023 at SABBS – South African Boerboel Breeders Society.

Malaga Boerboels is a small, family-run kennel based close to the historic town, Torre Del Mar, in Spain.

Owner, Oscar has more than 36 years of experience in dogs and dog breeding. Oscar was a very passionate Neapolitan Mastiff breeder and has represented his breed in numerous shows, as well as his region in one of the breed registries.

As life happens, one journey led to another and the Boerboel breed stumbled onto his path the day he saw a video of Middelpos Alpha in early 2017. “I have bred mastiffs and other molossian breeds all my life.”

“The presence of Alpha and his power, his guarding instinct, and the way he carried himself was phenomenal! I had to know more about this breed.”  After that, he started studying the breed, as much as he could. “I am a person who likes to read, I like studying lines, pedigree, and most of all the breed standard of the breed I am interested in, in this case, the Boerboel.

Middelpos Alpha was almost to the standard, almost. However, the lack of typically, standard and form was what ultimately inspired me to dive into this breed. I wanted to produce a dog like Middelpos Alpha, or even better dogs!”

Coming from a mastiff breed, Oscar knows mastiff-type dogs, the difficulties of breeding, and understands the importance of doing things right. His journey unfortunately led him to purchase two co-owned dogs, one died on the spot of heart failure, barely half a year old, and the other he signed off his ownership, due to the lack of health in the dog, he did not want to continue with that line. So the journey continued.

After some more research and time passed he spoke to some Boerboel enthusiasts online, and that is when things blew up tremendously. “When you meet people who share your passion in dogs, that is when a whole new world is opened.” In October 2022 Oscar opened his own group on Facebook, called “Boerboel Friends.” In his words “Learning material, with proper pictures to show people what the standard say, is not seen in this breed. You find bits of pieces of things, but not at as a whole. I remember seeing this drawing, where the dog looked like it had a slide for a topline.”  This is what inspired him to create the group; to form a community where anyone is welcome to learn about Boerboels, the breed, breeding in general and of course, show off their own dogs.

In January 2023, Cavin Regal Teddy 5 stumbled into his life, co-owned with Tony from the Canary Islands, Teddy was imported from the USA- although she originally came from South Africa. Teddy was a large female, broad with an incredible chest and presence. She stood proudly, larger than life, and sparked the desire to breed the best boerboels even more. “Teddy not only had an amazing temperament, she also had something the breed lacks a lot, a deep, broad chest that made her undoubtedly one of the best females to ever be bred in this breed.”  Teddy was a daughter of Elevation Ghetto Rough and she carried the line of Cabaret Pocket Money from her mother’s side. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts by the vets and Oscar, Teddy passed away from bloat shortly after her arrival in Spain. “I chose to have Teddy in my logo, to always carry her in my kennel, a reminder of the dreams and hopes that she gave me. Losing her was a terrible time for myself and my family. Teddy was like a child in our home, even for having her a short while, we loved her dearly.”

During the time Teddy arrived, Anukh Eloa- bred in Portugal by Maria from Anukh Boerboels joined the kennel. Eloa is in her way typical Boerboel, in temperament and structure. She has a flawless structure with exceptional movement. She is alert, friendly when needs to be, and fierce when the time is needed. “For me, she comes from the best kennel in Portugal.”

Shortly after Eloa, we added BBS Fiona, imported from South Africa to the kennel. A female who is almost perfect to Malaga Boerboel’s vision. Fiona not only carried the line of Middelpos Alpha, but also the line of Cabaret Son of A Gun and MES Bite a Bullet.

In time Elevation Aslan joined the kennel, and he impressed even more. Aslan was imported from South Africa from a small kennel that owned him in the Southern Cape, in South Africa. Aslan is a large dog, with great bone and an incredible head to boot. He is an alpha male,  but also has a good, stable temperament. His line includes MES Felix Boeta, MES Askam and Cabaret Pavarotti.

MES Ruby Red was added to the kennel, a few months after Elevation Aslan. We are very thankful to Karin Pieterse for her. Ruby has more than 6 International Champions in her pedigree and is a proud daughter of MES Barone and MES Roxete.

At Malaga Boerboels, we believe in presence, authenticity, power, and temperament! A Boerboel must be a large, powerful dog, they must be protective, loyal, trainable and have personality!

These dogs are strong! They are not for the faint hearted and they test you when you least expect it. But nothing brings you more joy than they do. “In all my years, I finally found a breed that is large, strong a mastiff but also has excellent muscle definition and an incredible presence. Nothing compares to being in the same room as one of these dogs! you won’t understand until you own one. there is no other breed like the Boerboel.”

Malaga Boerboels, breeds to improve the breed but most importantly to educate, and to raise the bar just a little. Each puppy leaves the kennel with a full puppy pack, you will have everything you need for them in their first days with you. Each puppy leaves with a extremely strict contract, and breaking that contract has immense legal implications for the owner who signed it. “I want to be sure where my dogs are, how they are looked after, and who has my bloodline, I want to protect not only the breed but also the dogs coming from my kennel. So, if you don’t accept my contract and terms, you won’t have one of my dogs.”

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
