About the Breed
The South African Boerboel is a mastiff bred for guarding and protection, with a temperament that allows them to recognize and protect from threats without being aggressive towards animals or family. They are good companions for children and are a combination of substance, soundness, athleticism, and a wonderful temperament. Developed over 400 years ago for hunting, cattle work, and guarding, the Boerboel faced near extinction in the early 1900s but was revived by the South African Boerboel Breeders Association in the 1980s. Breeding to a strict standard can limit diversity, as seen in other breeds such as the Great Dane. Maintaining different types within the Boerboel breed is crucial for its future as a respected working dog, as each type serves a different purpose and contributes to the overall gene pool quality and effectiveness. Keeping diversity in mind when breeding ensures the Boerboel remains a useful and respected working dog globally.
About Malaga Boerboels
Malaga Boerboels is a kennel registered in 2023 with SABBS and owned by Oscar Torcuato Martin in Torre Del Mar, Spain. Oscar has over 36 years of experience in dog breeding, previously breeding Neapolitan Mastiffs. However, after discovering the Boerboel breed through Middelpos Alpha in 2017, he shifted his focus. Impressed by Alpha’s power and guarding instincts, Oscar began studying the Boerboel breed extensively. Despite encountering challenges, including the loss of co-owned dogs due to health issues, Oscar remained committed to producing exceptional Boerboels. He prioritizes breeding dogs that meet the breed standard and aims to surpass the qualities of Middelpos Alpha. With a background in mastiff breeds, Oscar understands the intricacies of breeding and is dedicated to doing things correctly. His passion for the Boerboel breed and his determination to improve its quality reflect his commitment to responsible breeding practices.
